(3.8/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web)
Watch elephants munch on palm leaves or play in the mud at Punnathur Kotta (Anakkotta), an elephant sanctuary housing 58 animals. Owned and managed by a nearby Hindu temple staff, these elephants take part in various religious festivities, and they are also adorned and lent to other temples. Walk amidst these giant animals through this 4.6 hectares (11.5 acres) of coconut grove and watch them feed and bathe. See baby elephant and very old ones, including some over 80 years of age, and learn their names. A number of them are tied to a concrete stump, especially those in must. • Punnathurkotta is a fort and former palace located in Kottapadi, about 2 km from the Guruvayoor ... The legendary elephant "Guruvayur Keshavan" was housed here. The compound also has a naalukettu which is famous in film industry.
  • Great place to visit. Many elephants are nurtured here with great care. All elephants belong to God Shri Guruvayurappan
  • 53 elephants were there as on Nov 2016. It was interesting to observe their activities. But many are chained heavily so that the only movement possible was just rocking the body. There is enough parking for vehicles. Parking fees and entry fees are to be paid. No photography allowed.
  • Elephants everywhere!! 54 of them in a campus belonging to Guruvayoor temple. Must visit if you want to see happy, clean and cool elephants. Photography not allowed.
  • Its the one and only place, i believe in india, where you can see such a huge number of elephants at one time all round the year. The elephants are well looked after and lives a healthy relaxing life.
