  • The Museum, which boils down to a few ornamental parts of Catholic worship is of little particular appeal. The explanations are not very readable and very dusty display cases. Too bad!

  • (Qualified unmissable old goa) recommendation of the Lonely Planet, we went to visit the Museum of Christian art. This one is concentrated in a single piece, devoid of charm, which yet is part of the chapel of the convent. A few shop windows lined up one after the other rescellent many more or less damaged objects. The explanations are present but do not encourage reading. The rates have increased from 30 to 50 IDR and the student rate is applicable only to children. The attraction was worth maybe a visit a few years ago but this isn't the case at the moment...

  • The Museum, tucked away from the rush at the Church of Bom Jesu in old Goa, is a beautiful, compact well-curated space. The objects are well displayed within the heritage structure and reflect the sto...  more »

  • Was a youngish journalist when it was being launched circa 1994, if I recall correctly, at its first home at the Rachol Seminary, closer to Margao. It has since been shifted to Old Goa and has been building itself here. Curator Natasha Fernandes is friendly and helpful. They have activities at the museum too. It has a good collection, some priceless objects... but one needs to take an interest and understand to get to know its truth worth. Check out some of the books, CDs etc available for sale here. I don't think you could do justice to its exhibits if you're in a touristic hurry. According to the institution, three years prior to the inauguration of the Museum in 1994, Prof. Teotonio R. De Sousa, then Director, Xavier Center of Historical Research had been entrusted to prepare an inventory of the art objects in the churches and main chapels of Goa, which he did so painstakingly with field assistance of Fausto Colaco and Felix Ferrao. Based on this inventory, Ms. Maria Helena Mendes Pinto (Curator of Arte Antiga, Lisbon) and Ms. M.da Conceicao Borges (also of the same Museum) after a round through the churches and chapels made a final selection of the art objects to be displayed in the Museum. I recall the role played by the young Victor Hugo Gomes, an artist who has gone on to set up him own museums since, in those early days....
  • This Museum houses some of the best specimens of Goa´s distinctive and exquisitely crafted church art. The collection also includes rosaries and other items made of gold and precious stone.
  • Its good ,cleaned and fully air conditioned
  • Great place if you want to see Christian community culture.
  • Must visit place... if you have time
