Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple, Gangtok

(4.3/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web)
Visit a holy place high up in the mountains at Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple, built to honor a 27-year-old soldier who died while posted close to the Sino-Indian border. Singh's death in 1968 has remained the subject of myth and spiritual belief: the official version suggests that he was killed during a skirmish on a mountain pass between Tibet and Sikkim, but others state that he perished in a glacier. Legend has it that he visited one of his colleagues in a dream and asked him to build a shrine here in his memory. The shrine has become a moving tribute and a place of pilgrimage, particularly for service personnel. Put Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial Temple into our Gangtok trip builder to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Gangtok.

  • This is the new Baba Harbhajan Ki mandir. The original bunker is further up from this place. Be careful at this altitude as Acute Mountain Sickness can hit you hard if you don't take care of yourself. It is about 6 hours drive from Gangtok. Start early to reach this place by afternoon. This place has great views of the mountains. Just too good. Ensure that you respect the dignity of the place when you visit.
  • A holy place maintained by Indian army. Baba Harbhajan Singh was an army personnel. There is a story behind this place which is worth knowing. There will be an army person who will give you prasad. On the way you can see signboards stating 'Chinese observation starts' and 'Chinese observation ends'. Chinese army can see you between these two boards.
  • This is a temple built for Baba Harbjajan Singh, who was a soldier in the Indian Army. Who is not alive now but as a spirit still guides and serves the Indian Army. This temple is built and maintained by the Indian Army. Really story of this soldier saint fills our heart with pride and dedication to our nation. a must visit for everyone coming to Sikkim. Wish to visit here once more.
