Akshardham, Gandhinagar

Religious Site · Landmark
Akshardham serves as a grand complex dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, the founder of the prominent Hindu civic organization BAPS. A massive and intricately carved pink sandstone mandir--a Hindu place of worship--stands as the centerpiece of the 23 acre (9.3 hectare) complex. Standing at a height of 108 ft (33 m) and covering a floor area of 32,427 sq ft (3,014 sq m), this mandir features over 6,000 tons (5.5 million lbs) of pink sandstone. After you finish marveling at the main mandir, stroll through the complex's series of decorative mandapams--pillared outdoor halls used for public rituals. The complex also features artistic and historic exhibits meant to educate visitors about the path to spiritual enlightenment. • The outer look of the temple is magnificent. It's a must go to place when you are in Delhi. There's ample space for parking. The management is also appreciable. They'll provide you instructions over the speaker. Entrance is totally free. Parking is also free. But you'll definitely be drained out by sun if you go in the daytime because of lack of shade and also due to long lines of visitors. To escape the heat, the best time would be in the evening when they also showcase beautiful water fountain and also sometimes few clips from Hindu mythical stories. But the crowd will be same no matter what time of the a day it is. They don't allow any metallic items inside the premises. So it's better to keep them back in your vehicle rather than standing in line for deposit. No photos allowed inside the premises and also no food items.
  • Best place to be in peace. One can simply spend the whole day their enjoying the architecture, museum, movie and the boat ride. The canteen is huge and serves the traditional yummy food. The best thing is that the phones are not allowed here. Awesome experience. One cannot regret being here.
  • This is beautiful, peaceful and architectural wonder place. Excellent silence in the main temple. Full of divine vibrations. Once you enter in the temple you can easily connect with many wow moment. Well maintain place. Apart from this they offer pure veg food at very reasonable price
  • Awesome, Mind blowing carvings and sculptures. ... The laser show and foundain attracted me.. Well kept tidy and clean.. In every aspect it is perfect. An unique temple n India.. Vast and huge in both it's exteriors and interiors. Full security is here, restricting from cameras and phones and also shoes and sandals(the preliminary step to enter a worship place).seems like an empire. With amenities of food court with all types of dessert and juices and then play area for children, laser shows and more.. Beyond words to say.. They really amused me So its better to go and see, it was a worth worthy trip for me.. Hope this would help you Thanks
  • One of the best places to visit in Delhi. You need at least 1 day to visit the whole temple. The temple has magnificent shows which ends up late in evening. The shows consist of Robotic Show, Short Film, Boat Ride, and Water show. All shows are very amusing and worth the tickets. The ticket prices are genuine. Mobile phone are not allowed inside the premises.
