Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti, Fatehpur Sikri

3.8
#3 of 13 in Things to do in Fatehpur Sikri
Landmark Tourist Spot
One of the most highly regarded examples of Mughal architecture in the country, Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti serves as the final resting place of the Sufi saint. Devotees visit the graceful 16th-century tomb to request blessings from the saint, tying a signifying thread to the marble screens that enclose the building so their wishes will not be forgotten. Admire the intricately carved edifice, adorned with arabesques and selections from the Koran, and the plinth's yellow and black mosaics. Note that women will have to wear a scarf on their head to enter, and all visitors must remove their shoes. Wear socks so as not to burn your feet on the sun scorched ground. Put Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti into our Fatehpur Sikri family vacation planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Totally beautiful, but one of the worst travel experiences ever. From the parking lot to the bus, constantly hounded by hawkers and unofficial guides. They do not allow outside guides. Then into an overcrowded bus for the 10 minute ride from parking to gate. Upon arrival, we were still bombarded, both inside and out by these unofficial guides. We could not go more than 5 minutes without being approached, sometimes rather aggressively. We finally cut our visit short when trying to get to the mosque, we were angrily yelled at by a guide because we refused to follow him. We saw no western tourists here, and can understand why. Even our driver said he had to watch what he said there for fear of retribution. While the site is breathtaking, until they clean up their act, it is better skipped.
  • Maintained very well to this date thanks to the archeological survey of India. All religions are allowed to enter and offer prayers.
  • The mausoleum was constructed by Akbar as a mark of his respect for the Sufi saint.known for Child Birth Blessing.
  • Serenity at Salim Chishti's Dargah. Your wishes come true here. Have faith.
  • Nice place to visit. But the holy place is made up as footpath market, even inside the premises. Guides from the age of 60 to 10yrs will chase you to hell!! Otherwise a must see location.
