Gopi Talab, Dwarka

1.0
#12 of 14 in Things to do in Dwarka
Visit a birthplace of Gopi’s religious myths and legends and find out about the unconditional love of Lord Krishna’s maidens at Gopi Talab. The waters of this pond are considered as holy, with legends telling that when Lord Krishna left for heavens, the Gopi could not bear the separation so they became one with the soil. Have a tour of the place and witness the yellow clay of the pond which is said to be equivalent to the sandalwood, and is called ‘Gopi Chandan’ by devotees. See also the floating stone with etched Krisha’s name. Buy the Gopi Chandar which serves in religious rituals for low cost. Where to stay in Dwarka

As a major point of Hindu pilgrimage, you'll find a number of accommodations located close to the main temple in Dwarka. With the city built only on a small scale, you won't have too many problems accessing the main sites, regardless of where you stay in town. By the same token, however, places in the city can fill up very quickly, particularly during August and September when a range of festivities are held. Hotels go from mid-range to basic, and you'll also find some dormitory-style lodging in town.
