St. Paul's Church, Diu
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Marvel at intricately carved walls and light a candle in St. Paul's Church, a mesmerizing colonial-style Portuguese church. Completed in 1610 by Jesuits and reconstructed in 1807, the church has an impressive baroque façade painted white, making it the best examples of baroque architecture in India. Massive, elaborately carved wooden door, panel wood furniture and an image of Mary carved out a single piece of Burmese teak fill its spacious interior which can accommodate some 250 people. This active church dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception also features an exquisite 400 year old pulpit.
