Trip Planner: Asia / India / Rajasthan / Bikaner District / Deshnoke / Historic Sites / Karni Mata Temple
Over 20,000 black rats reside at Karni Mata Temple, which attracts devotees from all over the country--most come to pay their respects to the "holly" rats. Admire the picturesque marble facade of the temple, or step inside and try to find one of the rare white rats, which are considered even more sacred than the black. It is an amazing temple where rats are revered. If you have a thing about rats, like I do, you need to stay in the centre of the temple and move as little as possible. There are hundreds of rats in the temple and they run all over the place. The highlight of a visit to the temple is always catching a glimpse of the albino rat. There is just one white rat and seeing it is considered very auspicious. We did manage to see it. The temple edifice is stunning. The carving on the walls and the doors is exquisite. Must visit if you are on a trip to the area it is a must visit.
Amazing temple. The most amazing and surprising thing I found about the temple is that thousands of rats stay in the temple and move freely without any fear of human beings. They may even touch your feet or move over it without any fear. They are so many in number moving in everywhere that if you are not careful, you might accidentally step over one of them. People who visit the temple also feed the rats. I spotted even some pigeons moving freely. There are some white rats who also stay there. Locals say that spotting a white rat over there is considered very auspicious and brings good luck. Though it's very difficult to spot the white rats, I managed to spot one. I have posted a picture of it. Since it was in a darker place and I didn't want to use a flash with a fear of scaring them, the picture is not very clear. But if you zoom the picture, you can clearly see the white rat in the middle of hundreds of black rats. It's very amusing to see the overall sight of being in a temple with thousands of rats moving around you. Whether you are religious minded or not, one must visit this temple at least once to witness some unknown and unexplained wonders that exist in India.
Visited several times, a famous centre of spiritual beliefs, along with mataji's worship ,kaawa is mostly desired by everyone here, historical temple, well maintained..
Amazing place with spiritual magic flowing in the air of Deshnok. Presence of hundreds of rats increase feeling of holiness and spiritualism in the temple of Karni Mata.
Old and Gold temple.. karni mata ji ki jai :)
