Baba Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Marvel at the ancient stonemasonry and architecture at Baba Baidyanath Dham, a complex of 22 Hindu temples believed to be the most sacred temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. A landmark of the Deoghar area, the 30 m (72 ft) tall lotus pyramid shaped towers, or shikharas, painted white stand in stark contrast to the city. Noted in several ancient scriptures, this is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples, most revered by Shiva followers. The temple houses exquisite 65 kg (143 lb) gold vessels, trident-shaped knives and a rare blue moonstone believed to let droplets of water on the rare Jyotirlinga stone. Enjoy a wide garden area, observe the devotees and try some cookies offered at stands. Make Baba Baidyanath Dham a part of your Deoghar vacation plans using our Deoghar holiday planner.

It is believed that Ravana worshiped Lord Shiva at Baijnath (Himachal Pradesh) during Treta Yug and got the blessing of Shiva to lift the Shiva Linga from Baijnath and to established in Sri Lanka. But he kept the Shiva Linga on mid of the way at Baidyanath-Jharkhand. Lord Shiva had warned Ravana to take him directly to Sri Lanka or else he will not move from their. Lord Shiva is still in Baidyanath- Jharkhand. Jai Bholenath..
