Forest Research Institute, Dehradun

4.5
As part of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, Forest Research Institute represents one of the leading bodies in the field. The building itself displays Greco-Roman and colonial architecture styles, with tall stone columns at the entrance. Admire the museum, split into six sections entirely dedicated to forestry, covering subjects including pathology, timber, and silviculture. Before you leave, explore the lawns and the surrounding tall trees outside. • This place has beauty , greenery , fresh and pollution free atmosphere moreover it's peace and shooting points make it a good place to visit... It also has college and museum in it's campus and also canteen for refreshment which makes it a cool picnic a point... It's couple friendly also...
  • Very large, lovely, clean and quiet campus. Wherever U see one can find greenry in a large amount which does not allow the mercury to raise much high. It's amazing to here that all species(mostly not sure) of plants and trees can be found here. FRI also owns a nursery for the saplings of these plants and trees. One can have option to go and skip this but a (must visit) place.
  • Unique architecture, rich forests, museums and center of forestry knowledge from empire's perspective. The large campus is also the mecca of country's IFS bureaucracy, one of the still functional remains of the colonial era. Better do some background studies on the role of colonial forestry in destroying the biodiversity and habitat base of tribal in India, before visiting this monument of colonial exploitation. Its actually a good place for re learning about India and about the role of timber in the expansion of British empire and its consequences on rural India. It has all the potential for becoming a knowledge center of formal and non formal environmental education. And yes it desperately needs cafes/washrooms and knowledgeable staff not clerks to manage the museums.
  • TheĀ Forest Research InstituteĀ in Dehradun is an educational cum tourist spot set amidst the lush green mountains of the lesser siwalik range. The ambience here explodes of intricate beauty and natural diversity. This premier research institute is also the oldest research institute of the country. The place is dedicated for studying the plants, animals, climate and topography of the Himalayan forests. It is one of the prestigious institutes of India and the primary one dedicated singularly to the field of forestry.
  • Words aren't enough to describe this place. Extensive efforts are made by researchers n scholars here. If you are passionate about plants. must visit here
