Tiger Hill, Darjeeling

3.8
Lookout · Tourist Spot
At Tiger Hill, experience panoramic views of some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas. You can reach the summit either by foot 11 km (6.8 mi) from the town of Darjeeling, or by jeep. With a straight line distance of 172 km (107 mi), you can actually see the world's rooftop--Mount Everest--from this site, even though the fifth-highest peak, Makalu, appears higher here because of the curvature of the Earth. Observe the vast mountainous landscape around you and the rivers which meander to the south. Visit the wildlife sanctuary situated close to the summit. Remember to bring your hiking boots and warm clothing for this venture. Use our Darjeeling online holiday maker to add Tiger Hill and other attractions to your Darjeeling vacation plans.

  • Interesting place for sunrise. There are other points in the city also giving that similar view. Best time to reach is 5 am.  more »

  • The best place in west Bengal to have a clear view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and this is the reason this place is famous. The best time to come here is before Sunrise because when the first light of Sun touches the peak of Kanchenjunga, the peak turns to golden and it is a heavenly feeling. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this feeling because it was completely cloudy, but still the rest was awesome. Here are some clicks.
  • words are not enough to express my experience in tiger hill. It was December and we had to wake up 4.00 am to enjoy the Sunrise in tiger hill. More than 500 people also joined with us. During Sunrise we also enjoyed the beautiful view of Kanchenjunga. Really the scenic beauty of nature on that moment is not expressed in word
  • It’s cold up there so take something warm along with you. It’s the best place to see sunrise and even better for sunsets as there won’t be any crowd during the evening.
  • Waiting to see the sunrise in the wee morning hours with freezing cold weather is something to remember. Many people arrive in the early morning to see the sunrise in the backdrop of Himalayan range. You should go with warm clothing and still you feel your fingers burning. It is wonderful delight to watch the sunrise from this vantage point. Locals sell coffee and it can provide some of much needed warmth.
  • If you are lucky you will definitely get the view of peak during sunrise...try to start early like 3 AM to get proper standing position and to avoid walking which will make you tired for sure. Don't take the shortcut steps as it's just a so called shortcut, if you follow sloping path(road) it would be of less effort.
