  • Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (also known as Darjeeling Zoo) has 67.56 acre area in Darjeeling Town of the Indian state of West Bengal. This zoo has an average elevation of 7,000 feet which ...  more »
  • The zoo has many animals of the region of the Himalaya put many stands are empty t I must confess that I do not see animals locked in a zoo even if in this case the allocated spaces are within a lined and wide enough vegetation. The museum dedicated to the chain of the Himalaya is much more interesting: it gives information on the string itself and the different climbs on Everest.

  • The zoo is well maintained with a good collection of varied animals. Well worth a visit. If One is interested then would need a minimum of 2-3 hours to cover the entire zoo.  more »

  • Darjeeling zoo is officially known as the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, The combined ticket (Zoo + HMI) is Rs. 50/- (subject to change). There is also additional charge for taking cameras inside (Rs. 10/-). Some of the highlights of the zoo includes the conservation programs where you can see vulnerable and endangered high altitude Himalayan animals like the Tibetan Wolf, Red Panda, Snow Leopard etc. all in semi natural habitats. And then there are Siberian Tigers, Yaks and lot more. As you enter through the main gate, you will see some curio and souvenir shops on the left. And right in front is the Aviary, a huge circular birds cage. You can see different kinds of birds inside including Rose Ring Parakeets, Hill Mynas, Ring Necked Pheasants, Blue Gold Macaw and more. The striking ones are the two very large size birds of yellow and blue combination Macaws. As you walk along, high up on your right you can see the cages made out of iron nets. That's the upper section of the zoo. In about 75 meters from the main gate, you will see a road on the right which is going uphill. That's the one to take to see the upper section. Otherwise you can keep going straight to visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and cover this area on your return.
  • Gives the opportunity of seeing Himalayan fauna in clean and well maintained premise. Semi captive places for the animals. Hilly terrain of the land is dealt with gradual slopes and distances except few steep pockets. Each "captive" space is depicted with good basic information and image of the animal life. Kids can connect fast with the environment. the Zoo is also full of big trees making the experience even more richer. Please go with open mind by not comparing it with any other developed country Zoo. We appreciate this good Indian effort.
  • This is a amazing place. Found lots of collection of animals. And they are living in good condition. The Royal Bengal Tiger and the red panda was a good attractions to me. Roads in there was clean. All the staffs and guards ware helpful.
