Lloyd's Botanical Garden, or Darjeeling Botanical Garden, is a botanical garden in Darjeeling in the Indian state of West Bengal.HistoryLloyd's Botanical Garden was established in 1878 when 40acre of land was acquired at Darjeeling to form a botanic garden as a distant annexe of the Calcutta Botanical Garden. The land was provided by William Lloyd, in whose name the botanical garden has been named.CollectionsThe Darjeeling Botanical Garden preserves several species of bamboo, oak, magnolia, arisaema, cotoneaster, wild geranium, and rhododendron — forest native plants of the Darjeeling Himalayan hill region, Sikkim region, and other neighbouring regions. Also, several exotic plants are preserved. The Cacti and Succulent collection of 150 species is displayed in the Conservatory. The collection of native Orchids from the Singalila Ridge in present-day Singalila National Park is rare and notable.

Where to stay in Darjeeling

A popular hillside resort town with plenty of attractions old, new, natural, and manmade, Darjeeling has a good number of accommodations to cater to the long list of visitors. Hotels and lodges across the main urban area provide the most popular options in town, with some newly built accommodations sitting alongside particularly well-maintained colonial-era properties. Hostels can be found on the side streets in the main urban area, while further out of town sit a number of eco-lodges and old plantation houses, now open as hotels or rental cottages.

  • A nature lover's paradise, Darjeeling's botanical garden is my all-time favourite place to visit while in the town. Feel closer to nature, and the tranquility of the place away from the cacophony of the bustling town is infectious. The descent down is amazing.
  • A very beautiful and large place settled amidst of bustling town. Has wide range of beautiful flowers and plants. The house of cactus and flowers are placed in different spots. This place is very popular among morning walkers. The huge coniferous trees makes this place more beautiful.
  • This place is huge, you need to walk uphill and downhill alot. Beautiful varieties of flower you will spot. Nice place for your girlfriend/wife to get photographed.
