  • Ghoom Monastery is the popular name of the Yiga Choeling Monastery located at Ghoom at an elevation of 8,000 feet, 8 km from Darjeeling in the State of West Bengal in India. It is the first ever Tibetan Buddhist monastery to be built in the Darjeeling region. The monastery follows the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. There is a 15-feet high statue of "Maitreya Buddha" (Coming Buddha) in the monastery. Photography is allowed here.
  • This place has been a must-visit for tourists of all religions who come to visit darjeeling from all over the world, yet they cannot maintain a single clean washroom. They should take lesson from monasteries in Sikkim. Such a shame.Views are great, ambience is good but hygiene and sanitation is awful.
  • The oldest Monastery in Darjeeling (according to local guides I talked to), this is a serene & very peaceful place. Usually, this place is covered in the half-day local sightseeing trip of Darjeeling, that starts with sun rise at Tiger Hill. Some Bhutanese women sell awesome woolen stuff too! Definitely worth a visit!
  • When i entered inside of it, i dont know what happened but i felt so relaxed.. I was feeling that i have entered heaven. So peaceful environment. Must visit place.
  • The place was holy. Quiet. And best part for atheists was the chai!

Hotels and lodges across the main urban area provide the most popular options in town, with some newly built accommodations sitting alongside particularly well-maintained colonial-era properties. Hostels can be found on the side streets in the main urban area, while further out of town sit a number of eco-lodges and old plantation houses, now open as hotels or rental cottages.
