Coronation Bridge, Darjeeling

4.1
Traverse the cleverly engineered span of Coronation Bridge, a striking white and raspberry-red reinforced concrete structure. Supported by a single arch, the bridge crosses the Teesta River and connects the districts of Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. Commissioned to commemorate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937, it was completed in 1941, and affords sweeping views of the verdant valley and river below. Note the two lion statues at one entrance. Arrange your visit to Coronation Bridge and discover more family-friendly attractions in Darjeeling using our Darjeeling trip builder tool .

  • We stopped before the bridge and were walking across the bridge. Very beautiful view down to the flat land. There are many monkeys (macaques). Here it is recommended to keep a distance.

  • Its a very beautiful place.. Feel good factor increases with the surroundings. Loved this place.
  • Magnificent. With the blue teesta flowing quietly below it. It's huge and has a beautiful view
  • Heritage bridge, named to commemorate the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937 and was completed in 1941. The foundation stone of the bridge was laid by John Anderson, the-then Governor of Bengal in 1937. Locals call the bridge Baghpool, meaning tiger bridge, because of the two lion statues (bagh actually means tiger) at one entrance of the bridge.
  • Repainted the whole bridge from Pink to White on Feb 2017. Great Driving Experience through this Bridge. Nice views and fresh air. Many tourists visits here for a well known Kali Mandir there.
  • This is a very important bridge over Teesta river that connects Jalpaiguri and darjeeling districts of West Bengal.
