Arulmigu Patteeswarar Swamy Temple, Coimbatore

#3 of 29 in Sightseeing in Coimbatore
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Take in the spiritual significance and ornate construction of Arulmigu Patteeswarar Swamy Temple. Built somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 years ago, the temple towers over visitors in a facade of striking pastel tones. Tour the many halls and gopurams (towers), and inspect the multitude of carved pillars representing Shiva in his various forms. Don't miss the golden statue of Nataraja--a depiction of Shiva as a cosmic dancer, and the centerpiece of the temple. The shivalinga is found beneath an effigy of a sacred cow, and if you're lucky you may witness the milk that is said to drip from under the cow onto the linga. Arulmigu Patteeswarar Swamy Temple is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Coimbatore Edition.
