Traverse some of the 400 waterways in search of spectacular wildlife at Pichavaram Mangrove Forest, considered one of the best examples of its kind in the world. Between September and April, a diverse range of resident and migratory birds inhabit the forest, including snipes, spoonbills, and egrets, with November to January being the busiest months. Take an hour-long boat tour through the water-rooted trees, where a guide will provide ample information regarding the natural world around you. Consider choosing a rowboat as your mode so as not to scare away your quarry, and travel with plenty of water to stay hydrated. • Amazing experience. Opens at 8 AM. However, in summers it is better to reach early morning. Row boat is better option as motor boats are noisy. Row boats are reasonably priced too. Boatman might ask for some extra money to give you extra round of a different area. 2 hours round is very satisfying. Loved the overall experience.
  • Lovely serene place and a must visit place if you are going to Pondicherry. Situated in outskirts it takes more than 3 hours to reach there but then one can book a boat to explore the mangrove trees and the calm waters. One can connect very well with nature by visiting this place. Provision for lunch is also available but don't expect high quality food. Best time to visit is early morning to 4 pm.
  • A beautiful and idyllic place to spend half a day. There are many backwater channels to keep you excited. A preferred place for migratory birds, you can spot multiple species during the winter season. The nature walk/bird sighting area in one of the mangrove islands provides for a nice trail through the dense forests. There is also a small cabin near the boathouse detailing the rich biodiversity of this unique ecosystem.

  • Was surprised to see something more beautiful. Canals of sea water, gushing through the dense mangroves will make you wonder how beautiful our planet is. Do take a boat ride with inner permits. Prefer an early morning time to enhance your trip to more encounters with birds, animals and marine species.
