  • Nice place for boating. Avoid going in summer. Costs about Rs 350 per head.
  • Pichavaram is located near chidambaram which is famous for Annamalai university.Pichavaram is definitely one of the most beautiful places in Tamil Nadu. It is famous for mangrove forests . Also, do take the motor boat for convenience and for better experience. The boat operator will offer to take to shooting spot and other places which you can definitely visit. Also, you can catch glimpse of the Garuda or the Javanese eagle in this mangrove forest. One should visit this place during pleasant climate to thoroughly enjoy the ride.
  • Located in cuddalore district, this place is the world's third largest mangrove forest. I went with a few of my very close friends and people had suggested us to go for a motorised boat for the trip. We instead chose for an oared one and paid for a 2 hour ride. First , the fare is less, second when the boat navigates through the narrow rivulets, one can enjoy more in a slow moving craft. Well , we booked an oared one and 2 minutes into the ride, the oarsmen said if you give me more money I will take you into the real mangrove forest, else this ride will get over by just circling the outskirts. We negotiated to 500 rupees and went ahead with the plan, The place is scenic, ample opportunities to snap pictures, sing songs etc. If you are a nature observer, you might be even able to spot some rare birds. The actual mangrove spots are just an inch deep in muddy water, so one need not worry about drowning. There are some spots where the water is more than 10 feet deep and therefore it is pertinent to wear the safety jackets.
  • Amazing boat ride through the mangrove forests. Try to get a local guide as they will take you to the islands before the ride through the forests. Cheapest way to get there is to take a train or bus from Chennai to Chidambaram and then autos from there.
  • A nice place to visit with family over a weekend. This is one of the largest mangrove forests. Best if visited early in the morning. Boating there is very cheap. On request boat man will take you deep inside.
