(4.7/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web)
Stop at Kalikambal Temple and take in its vibrantly colored, intricately sculpted entrance. Originally built closer to the shore, the temple was actually moved and rebuilt in 1640. Reportedly, Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji frequented the site to pray. Bear in mind that the temple stands in a busy central area and parking could prove very difficult. • The Kalikambal temple is said to be built in 1640s. The temple can be accessed from Armenian Street or Thambu Chetty Street. Limited 4 wheeler parking in the narrow streets. Legend has it that Chatrapati Shivaji had worshipped in this temple when he visited Madras
  • The Kalikambal Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kalikambal (Kamakshi) and Lord Kamateswarar, located in George Town, Chennai, India. The temple is located on Thambu Chetty Street, a prominent financial street running parallel to Rajaji Salai. History The temple was originally located closer to the sea shore and was relocated to the current site at 1640 AD. It was then built in 1678.[1] Shivaji, the Maratha warrior and the founder of the Hindawi-Swarajya in the 17th century, had worshiped in this temple incognito on 3 October 1667.[2] It is believed that a fierce form of Goddess was held in worship earlier and that this form was replaced with the shanta swaroopa (calm posture) form of Goddess Kamakshi. "Powerful Temple" - Great
