Chapora Fort, Chapora

4.1
Ruin Landmark Must See
Get a new perspective on the coastal area and the mouth of the river, as well as a greater understanding of local history at Chapora Fort. Built by the Portuguese in 1617 on the site of an older Muslim structure, the fort changed hands many times before its ultimate abandonment in 1892. Today, the crumbling ruins only possess outer walls, although the view from these alone merits the hike uphill. Standing on top of the ramparts, you'll gain sights of nearby beaches and the sparkling sea and river below. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Goa holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Chapora Fort and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • A selfie paradise. Can get crowded over weekends but worth the trip. One can see massive sea views in all directions. Vagator and a Junaid beaches on the left and morjim and asher on the right across ...  more »
  • Lovely fort overlooking the beach. tends to get a little crowded and lot of vendors also in the area.  more »
  • Friends, if you do not want to explore the surroundings from a bird's-eye view, go here. There is nothing except the fortress walls and gates. The Fort itself has long been destroyed and rastashhen local bricks. But of course boast wonderful! You can make some good shots, if you have a decent optics. Climb better in the morning or after 16, but it is very hot and there is no shade except arches of the gate. Successful travel friends!

  • Wow! Majestic views all around... The steep hill climb is every bit worth it, for the lush greenery at the top surrounded by rock walls overlooking Arabian sea... You can also see the estuary of Chapora river from the top, as well as the coconut tree infested banks of Chapora river, and the fishermen huts... There are lot many photo spots, where you can get great pictures...
  • It's a wall, you can have a good look at the beaches and perfect for sun set. You gotta climb the mountain carefully. No transportation to the top of the fort. It closes at 5.30pm sharp. But there's a way on the left side of the wall to enter inside. Good place for taking pics.
  • Great view from the top. Cool breeze from the sea is just perfect after a steep climb to reach the fort. You can see Vagator and Chapora beach on either side and also the port in between. Perfect for panoramic shot. Warnings from other reviews are true to an extent but, if you can make 10-15 steps on a staircase then, that's all it takes to get to one of the refreshment shops. They're at every turn on the way up. So, take as many stops for as long as you need. It's worth the effort to reach the top. Make sure your footwear has good grip.
  • Wonderful place to visit especially during sunset.. make sure you enter the fort before 5pm. It's quite windy with amazing views. Weekday visits would be even less crowded.
  • Really great place where you have sea on 3 sides. There's a steep climb to the top but the climb is totally worth it. You could very well spend a couple of hours on top gazing at the sea

Where to stay in Goa

One of the more affordable regions for staying in India, Goa offers a good range of sleeping options, from budget to luxurious. Visitors looking for that feeling of home away from home can explore rental apartments, which offer more space than a hotel room and often come with fully equipped kitchens. Look for an apartment in Oxel or Siolim, peaceful villages with gated communities and a range of facilities. Beach houses and private villas offer an alternative for those with deeper pockets, while beach huts/shacks work well for budget-conscious travelers.
