Chapora Fort, Chapora

4.1
#Ruin, #Landmark, #Must See
Get a new perspective on the coastal area and the mouth of the river, as well as a greater understanding of local history at Chapora Fort. Built by the Portuguese in 1617 on the site of an older Muslim structure, the fort changed hands many times before its ultimate abandonment in 1892. Today, the crumbling ruins only possess outer walls, although the view from these alone merits the hike uphill. Standing on top of the ramparts, you'll gain sights of nearby beaches and the sparkling sea and river below. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Goa holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Chapora Fort and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • It has great scenic views. You need to climb and walk for around 20 minutes and then you reach the fort. However the visit is worth it. The view from the top is just amazing. A great place especially ...  more »
  • This is the famous "Dil chahta hai" location. Good place to visit once. You see a nice top view of the beach from here. Make time to sit and relax with the nice beach view. Not too much crowded place.  more »

  • One of the best places to experience sunset in Goa. Situated at the top of a hill, it serves as the hub of astounding scenic beauty and a paradise for photographers. However, strong winds at the top make it difficult to hold the phone steady for a video recording. The place has a paid parking spot around which one would find a couple of coconut and fruit sellers. From there it takes around 10-15 minutes to reach the top. As the climb is a bit steep and path isn't well laid out, I reckon that shoes with a good grip is required.
  • Nice place to visit ! Little steep way in the entrance as construction are going on now. The aerial view from the top is awesome. Recommend to take sunglasses, a water bottle, chips, ( please dispose in dustbin only). Wear sunscreen, comfortable shoes & a headscarf or a cap or a hat! In the month mid off season it looks greenery. I went earlier in Sept, it was lush green around then. But in hot weather it looks little dull. You gonna like it much. 💕
  • I have visited this place twice . This place got a very good view, like how can you not like the combination of a beach and fort. I recommend you should visit this place when you are in Goa and you can many great pics here as there are many photogenic spots here . This is also in one of the best places in Goa ( vagator) and best part is it's not crowded. Good to visit in the evening or morning
  • The fort is degenerated and away from city. The work is going on (April 2018) to restore its glory. More than the fortified structure the scenery from the top of the fort is marvellous... The beach down and the entire Arabian sea looks great. Not frequented by the crowd like other forts in Goa. Don't miss this place if you are visiting Goa. Not recommended for elderly people as you have to climb up to reach the fort. (May be there would be chances of having a vehicle to take you up there after restoration... Who knows... !) For young guys go ahead and explore... Good spot for photoshoots...
  • Sunset here is super! Lovely viewpoint within easy reach from the main road. Bring some beers/snacks to enjoy at the top! The best view is just in front of the fort - leave the staircase about halfway up, walk across some gravel to reach larger rocks which give you a closer look at the beaches and jungle below.
