Its a beautiful 1000 year old Jain temple with a 58 feet mighty statue of Bahubali. There are beautiful carvings ,pillars, poem's carved on the rocks and pillars of the temple. To go up the temple you need to climb around 600 steps. There is a footwear counter below the temple for a fee of ₹10. We climbed in the morning so the stairs were not hot. But if you are climbing in the afternoon there are chances for rocks becoming hot so you may carry socks or there are vendors selling socks near the footwear counter. There are railing along the stairs which is very helpful while climbing. For people who cannot climb up they may opt for porters who will carry them on a chair for a fee of ₹1500. If you have a binacular please carry so that you don't miss a great view from the temple.
Great place with good views from the top. The statue us huge. Very rural setting. Depending on the time of the day you can witness the puja.
At a distance of 140 Kms from Bangalore, 50 Kms from Hassan & 83 Kms from Mysore, Shravanabelagola is one of the most popular Jain pilgrimage center in South India. This place is named after the pond in middle of the town (Bela-Kola means White Pond). Shravan-belagola is famous for the Bahubali Statue which is supposed to be the tallest monolithic stone statue in the world with a height of 58 feet carved out of a single block of granite. The Gomateswara temple is built on top of a hill at an altitude of 3347 feet, called as Vindhyagiri hill (also known as Doddabetta or Indragiri). About 620 steps provide access to this temple from bottom of the hill. The nude statue of Bahubali is carved carefully with much perfection.
