I put this title because we were hesitant: a little off the beaten path we thought it was a situation catches tourists. Instead we were mistaken. Yes is off the beaten path but the road ahead is beautiful, unravels in the tropical forest and arrives at this remote village and this magnificent home is its heart. A wonder the sequence of rooms full of charm, of furniture, of history and stories. Fantastic objects, chandeliers, paintings, photographs, memorabilia, memories of a world so far away and here present. There are two apartments to visit, one under the leadership of Mrs. Judith, the other under the guidance of Mrs. Aida. The history of Portugal and that of India come together in this place a must see. And tourists are far away! And is closed on Sundays.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed into this exquisite family home, full of beautiful furniture and artefacts. A very personalised and friendly tour by the people who live and work at the house.  more »

An interesting historical building with the biggest private library in Goa. A small info guide/hand out on the house would have been useful. Good on them for trying to keep the place going.  more »

An excellent site. If you love architecture and history, do visit this. Portuguese style villa. Well maintained, you need to spend some rupees for the visit. Also contains all antique furnitures and all.

Only for those interested in 400 year old architecture. The house itself is a architectural wonder. Some old antique are their but not maintained. The garden too needs maintenance. 1/2 section is closed nowadays... And yes there is a voluntary contribution of INR 100.... The staff of the old lady is not much aware of the history of the family and the 14/16 generation is not available for that. But do visit...

Building is very old. It's not very well maintained. The old lady doesn't to be much interested in explaining the Guest about its history. She is more interested in snatching money from people. She will tell only about her plight of maintaining the building with 9 maids. She is not well informed also. They don't have any display board of entrance fee. First at the end of her explanations she will ask for offerings. Then suddenly she starts demanding. We were 3 Adults and 1 kid. I gave Rs 300 after her 15 minutes of explanations. She started demanding Rs 500-600.When I refused to do so . She became rude and asked us to leave, keeping the money with herself. We had a very bad experience and our mood was totally spoiled.

If you are South Goa then you cannot miss this more than 400 years old Portuguese house. It is a private property but you would welcomed here by residents. They would give an informational tour of a few sections of this house.

Great walk back into a time in the past. But no ticket yet charged 100 Rs per person for seeing one half of the house and another 150 Rs for the second half!

Where to stay in Goa

One of the more affordable regions for staying in India, Goa offers a good range of sleeping options, from budget to luxurious. Visitors looking for that feeling of home away from home can explore rental apartments, which offer more space than a hotel room and often come with fully equipped kitchens. Look for an apartment in Oxel or Siolim, peaceful villages with gated communities and a range of facilities. Beach houses and private villas offer an alternative for those with deeper pockets, while beach huts/shacks work well for budget-conscious travelers.
