Cabo de Rama Fort, Canacona

3.9
#9 of 69 in Historic Sites in Goa
Historic Site Tourist Spot
The blackened stone walls of Cabo de Rama Fort reveal the long history behind the clifftop fortress. Now a tourist spot for nice views and a window to the past, the fort served as a strategic defensive outpost in pre-colonial and colonial times. The fort's western side offers sweeping views of the northern and southern coasts and nearby beaches, serving as a great spot to watch the sunset. See old cannons and wells, and explore the fort's hidden rooms. Don't miss one of the highlights, the lovely white church, frequently visited by devotees. You can guide yourself around the fort, but you'll find little signposted information. Arrange to visit Cabo de Rama Fort and other attractions in Goa using our Goa itinerary builder.

  • i visited there with my family .was a different experience to have a view of sea from a great height.  more »
  • There's and old deserted fort, romantic, adventurous and virgin beach, coconut groves, that make you feel refreshed. But being far from the city, one can't expect for any sort of hospitality. It's bet...  more »
  • It is located at South Goa. We have visited the place at afternoon. The view from the top of the fort is awesome. There is also a church inside the fort.  more »

  • This is a great place if all you want is some group time between nature. The Fort ruins are quite green and a good place to sit and watch the sunrise or sunset. Trek along the walls of the ruins to get to various locations with scenic views. Don't forget to go down to the rocky beach and just be mesmerized by the water and rocks. One just doesn't feel like leaving that. Overall, the view of the sea from the Fort ruins ends up looking like the Caribbean. Don't miss it, even if heaven falls on earth. You are just gonna love it here.
  • Awesome sunset point. Climb down to visit rocky beach. Fort is still attractive after so much years. You just have to go and explore the place, it has most beautiful and enjoyable spots. Three spots- A) Top of fort tower- curve last piece of land view. B) Go down opposite to above tower from hill you will find spot alike in photo. C) go straight from church to 1 km you can see end point of hill and then just ocean.
  • Being a fort, Cabo De Rama unsurprisingly gives you an AMAZING panoramic view of the ocean. The inside areas of this fort are worn out over the years and it cannot be called well maintained. But it's no doubt a great place to spend a few hours. Do visit it in the evening since the sun won't bother you much.
  • It is located in a remote place though the drive up there is worth the scenes that meet your eye from the ramparts. If you got to go down near the sea there is no path but one from inside the trees and a small jungle. The church is beautiful....
  • Secluded. No convenience store. Not taken care of. Just a secluded abandoned site with a gorgeous view of the beach. There is also a cute little chapel called Santo Antonio atop the cliff.

Where to stay in Goa

One of the more affordable regions for staying in India, Goa offers a good range of sleeping options, from budget to luxurious. Visitors looking for that feeling of home away from home can explore rental apartments, which offer more space than a hotel room and often come with fully equipped kitchens. Look for an apartment in Oxel or Siolim, peaceful villages with gated communities and a range of facilities. Beach houses and private villas offer an alternative for those with deeper pockets, while beach huts/shacks work well for budget-conscious travelers.
