Great Buddha Statue, Bodh Gaya

4.4
#3 of 22 in Things to do in Bodh Gaya
Monument Tourist Spot
Towering 25 m (82 ft) tall overhead, Great Buddha Statue took 12,000 masons seven years of labor to complete. Depicted in a state of deep meditation, the Buddha rises imposingly from the ground, surrounded by smaller statues and carefully planted trees. If you have any questions, the security guards speak multiple languages and will happily share information. Note that the prime time to take pictures is earlier in the day, since the statue becomes a backlit silhouette later on. Where to stay in Bodh Gaya

Visitors to Bodh Gaya have a wealth of accommodation options to choose from, because of its dual status as a tourist attraction and a place of pilgrimage. Close to the main temple and park, a number of guesthouses provide comfortable rooms for good rates, as do different monasteries offering lodgings for a donation. Some more upmarket options, including hotels with fancy restaurants and themed rooms, tend to lie to the west, where the town opens up a little.
