Jain Temple Bhandasar, Bikaner

4.5
Take in the intricate details of Jain Temple Bhandasar, an unusually ornate place of worship. Paintings accented with gold-leaf adorn the interior walls, while the pillars supporting the structure tell the story of the lives of the faith's 24 historical teachers. Commissioned by a wealthy merchant in 1468, the building took some 56 years to complete, and remains very well preserved to this day. Venture to the third floor (note the porcelain floor tiles imported from Victorian England), where you'll witness exceptional views across the city and desert beyond. Small Jain temple with friendly priest. Donations welcome but not expected. Cars are not allowed close to the temple area so a local tuk tuk is required.  more »

Must see this temple, hoping that the priest is there. He explained the history of it and showed all the little details. He explained that it is the only temple of India fully painted walls and ceilings. It was built before the city with 40000 kg of butter instead of water and only in warm weather of spring fat by the ground (we saw). It's extraordinary. Of course leave a donation that will make her happy because he did this willingly and not asking for anything. Behind the temple next door we have a great view of the city and the desert in the distance.

Nice visit this temple is richly decorated in the heart of the bustle of the city. We felt very welcomed and enjoyed this discovery. Free tour. Just to remove their shoes to enter, an offering is welcome at the end of the visit but no obligation. The tour is done without constraint
