Jain Temple Bhandasar, Bikaner
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Take in the intricate details of Jain Temple Bhandasar, an unusually ornate place of worship. Paintings accented with gold-leaf adorn the interior walls, while the pillars supporting the structure tell the story of the lives of the faith's 24 historical teachers. Commissioned by a wealthy merchant in 1468, the building took some 56 years to complete, and remains very well preserved to this day. Venture to the third floor (note the porcelain floor tiles imported from Victorian England), where you'll witness exceptional views across the city and desert beyond.
