Gol Gumbaz, Bijapur
Categories: Ruins, Architectural Buildings, Tourist Spots
Famous for its remarkable dimensions and acoustic features, Gol Gumbaz represents a monumental example of Indo-Islamic architectural style. The mausoleum shelters the remains of Muhammad Adil Shah--the 17th century ruler of Bijapur--along with his wives and daughters. Examine the edifice's massive, imposing dome, with a diameter of 38 m (124 ft). Inside, try to pass messages in the whispering gallery, where even the slightest of whispers echoes from side to side. Besides excellent sound engineering, the structure has a cooling system that keeps the ambience refreshingly chilled.
