Gol Gumbaz, Bijapur

4.6
Famous for its remarkable dimensions and acoustic features, Gol Gumbaz represents a monumental example of Indo-Islamic architectural style. The mausoleum shelters the remains of Muhammad Adil Shah--the 17th century ruler of Bijapur--along with his wives and daughters. Examine the edifice's massive, imposing dome, with a diameter of 38 m (124 ft). Inside, try to pass messages in the whispering gallery, where even the slightest of whispers echoes from side to side. Besides excellent sound engineering, the structure has a cooling system that keeps the ambience refreshingly chilled. • Read in childhood about Sabse Bada Gumbaj - Gol Gumbaz. Got a chance to visit the place and got to know what history has in its lap. A must visit.  more »
  • Always thought the structure to be much smaller than the actual. The sheer size of gumbaz made me surprised. Also the geometric precision with which the interior and exterior are built is must watch. ...  more »

  • The whispering gallery is the centre of attraction. Can't believe how they applied science of echoing during those days when science was not much developed. It is well maintained and service is also good. Proud to say I am a descendant of this Royal city...luv my place😘
  • Breathtaking. An absolute gem. No matter what creed, the architecture, the structure, the history, the artistry and the overwhelmingly grandeur of the place will leave one awestruck. Be prepared as a foreigner to pay the Rs 200 entrance fee, it's worth every rupee and will also fill one with the feeling of goodwill as one can aid in the upkeep and maintenance of such a beautiful heritage site.
  • Amazing architecture. Place is maintained very neatly by the authorities. As mentioned in few reviews, one main problem is tourists itself. Main and central attraction is whispering gallery. Where you whisper from one end and you can hear from other side. If make bit louder noise, it will start echoing. And if you go in the peak time, tourists make lot of noise and start singing loudly, make curses and they just make it impossible to stay there. Best time is to visit is early in the morning. It opens at 7.00 in the morning and there will be few tourists and so you can experience amazing whisper gallery.
  • Amazing monument. If you really want to experience the whispering gallery and seven time echo, then do visit between 6 A.M. to 7 A.M (less crowded timing).
  • Really amazing place to visit. The beautiful monument and it's wonderful construction is a must see for all. The sound reflection and then being reheard by us multiple times makes many people really amazed and it's a really fun time to spend at. One of the best heritages that India has got.
