Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi, Bhopal

Must see · World heritage site · Ruin · Tourist Spot
Dating back to the early Mauryan period, UNESCO-protected Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi features an impressive collection of about 50 examples of Buddhist art and culture, including stupas, monolithic pillars, temples, monasteries, and sculptures. Of these, the great stupa stands as the oldest stone structure in India, and perhaps the site's most popular attraction. Altogether, the complex boasts three stupas, including possibly one of the earliest Buddhist temples in India, Temple 17. As you wander the complex, try to spot the Brahmi inscriptions on some of the monuments, especially Stupa 1. Consider hiring a tour guide or reading up on the attraction's history before visiting for a more in-depth experience. • A must go to place if you are in Bhopal. Be cautious if you are taking private buses(from Bhopal this is the option) driving is very rough. Better plan and take good trains. Nice place with all required amenities at the hill very well maintained by ASI.
  • Calm and quiet place. Cleanliness and security well maintained by Archaeological Survey of India. Many sculptures and artifacts from the Stupas are displayed in the museum.
  • I'd recommend this place to everyone, especially those who are interested in or inspired by Buddhism. My personal advice would be to take a guide along as they explain everything in detail and it is worth it. The major reason why I recommend this place is because of the guide that we had.
  • Excellent memoirs of ancient Indian architecture and sculpture. Though it seems to be ruined but gives us the glimpses of fine craftsmanship without the help of joint machines. It would have been marvellous creation by mankind in such आ hilly terrain.
  • See the place with guide. Otherwise you will not be able to feel the history properly. Nice well maintained place.
