Bhimashankar Temple, Bhimashankar

(4.4/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Visit one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines at Bhimashankar Temple, dedicated to one of the manifestations of Shiva. Located in a remote area at the source of a long river, the ancient temple dates back to around the 13th century CE, when the shrine was first mentioned in literature. Admire the artistry of the towering shikhara, built by influential statesman Nana Phadnavis during the 18th century. Learn about the story behind the Jyotirlinga shrines--each said to mark a site where Shiva appeared as a column of light--and explore the pleasant wilderness that surrounds the temple, now home to a nature reserve with hiking trails and bird-watching opportunities. • One of Jyotirlinga out of twelve. Bhimashankar temple is placed at such a nice hilly area. this is a holy place. the journey of temple is also too awesome. ride on the hilly road. If you are planning to go for a trip with your friends you must go for it. In addition to this there is trekking and hiking facilities are also available at a short distance from temple. In the way of the temple there are lot of Shooting points. overall this is such an awesome place and temple.
  • Its a nice temple. The only issue is that it is not maintained properly. We went to bhimashankar from Pune. Not the best time to visit as this place is worth visiting in monsoons. Some important points before you plan your trip 1. If you are going from pune, take the old nashik pune highway. (Return toll 47 INR). 2. When u are about to enter bhimashankar - Entry charges 20 INR. 3. NO parking charges. Vehicles are parked on the road sides. 4. If possible take your own food as you do not have many options there. Timing is very important. Only visit in monsoon.
  • Famous jyotirlinga is the main attraction here. Small place with human settlement around the temple. Clouds and fog can be seen merging with the top of trees; a visual treat. Small trekking trails behind the temple will lead you to few hilltops with splendid views. Locals call it Bombay point as Bombay can be seen from the top of the hill. I'm not sure about this as it was all foggy and I was finding it hard to locate my friends.
  • One of the holy 12 Jyotirlinga (Lord Shivas) temple. Ancient but simple, beautiful scenic atmospheric temple. Fills energetic by getting blessings of deities in mind blowing atmosphere. Observe beauty of lake. Can Travel by road or by trekking from Khandas- Bhimashankar road. Play hide and seek with light, fog, rain and visibility in Ghats. Take your own food. Start early & try to move early as travelling at nights in Hilly area's could be dangerous & if halted, ready to pay high cost.
