Tipu Sultan Fort and Palace - Bangalore KR Market, Bengaluru

(3/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Once the summer residence of Mysorean ruler Tipu Sultan, Tipu Sultan Fort and Palace - Bangalore KR Market stands as a shining example of Indo-Islamic architecture built entirely of teak. As you wander the complex, keep an eye out for floral motifs embellished on the walls, a painting of the grand throne as imagined by Tipu Sultan, and the eastern and western balconies from which Tipu Sultan would conduct court. On the ground floor, browse the small museum depicting Tipu Sultan's achievements, featuring an exhibition of his clothes and crown displayed on silver and gold pedestals. Art lovers may also be interested in works by James Hunter, who sketched various landscapes of South India, displayed in the palace. Using our custom trip planner, Bengaluru attractions like Tipu Sultan Fort and Palace - Bangalore KR Market can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Nice place for a quick visit. Nothing great but of course a famous king's palace grabs all the attention. Few posters with relevant information about the kings and place adds to the value. The government has taken few steps to keep the palace in good shape. However, you would feel it could've been in a better shape. The campus doesn't have parking place but the next buildings do have paid parking option.

  • Tipu Sultan palace is very ordinary. I did not find it intresting like other historical palaces; It is entirely made of wood with simple walls, no glimpse of any architectural work. Tipu Sultan seemed to be very simple emperor.
  • One of the superb places in Bangalore. Proud to be there where Tippy Sultan stayed. Loved to read his stories portrayed there. Tiger toy from Rajah Mahal is displayed here. Entrance Fee is Rs. 15/-.
  • Hire a guide at the front for 100 rupees or less to get some historical context to the palace. It made the visit much better. Otherwise the palace is nice, but small, and it doesn't seem that special.
