The Gokak Falls is a waterfall located on the Ghataprabha River in Belagavi district of Karnataka, India. The waterfall is six kilometers away from Gokak town. After a long winding course, the Ghataprabha river takes a leap of 52m over the sand-stone cliff amidst a picturesque gorge of the rugged valley, resembling Niagara Falls on a smaller scale. The waterfall is horse shoe shaped at the crest, with a flood breadth of 177m. During rainy season, the thick reddish brown water sweeps far over the brink of the cliff with a dull roar that can be heard from some distance. There is a hanging bridge across the river, measuring about 201m. Its height above the rock bed is 14m. There is an old electricity generation station and electricity was generated here for the first time in 1887One interesting feature of this place is the monuments from the Chalukya era that are found on either bank of the rocky gorge. Another attraction of this place is the very old river-front temple dedicated to Lord Mahalingeshwara, built in the Later Chalukya style of architecture. It is very unfortunate that Gokak Falls is Notorious as suicide spot.CommutationDistance from Kolhapur : 100 km

  • Wonderful place. Just loved it! My first time on the cliff near the waterfall. If you are brave enough u can get down below the cliff...superb view! It was very dangerous to get down but the cause of less water we somehow managed to get down below the cliff. Awesome experience...be careful don't play around!!
  • This place was amazing with a very decent atmosphere..but the maintainance was worst. But the place and locality was very beautiful with a peaceful environment. Here we can find the constructions of British Government like palace and hydroelectric power station.
  • No water in the falls... When i went. It had rained few days earlier still the falls had no water and all we could see was boulders everywhere. A disappointed trip it was. The hanging bridge to cross from one bank to other was a good experience. 2 stars only for that.
  • Fantastic and thrilling place to visit good bus connectivity. Gokak is a historical place and well known for its ಗೋಕಾಕ್ ಚಳವಳಿ... #DrRajkumar. Best time to visit is around #July. Coz, you can get to see more water fall in that falls during those days. And be careful using bridge and don't play fun. And plz avoid using plastic and don't spoil the nature around.
  • It's just amazing! What a view from the edge of the fall! The waterfall cannot be accessible in rainy season because of the high flow of the river and the ideal time to visit is in December!
