This place is literally heaven on earth. We were welcomed by snow clad mountains every where during 3rd week of April and it looked mesmerizing.
Gnathang Valley (pronounced as Nathang Valley or Gnathan Valley) is a high-altitude plateau, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, situated at 13,500 feet from the sea-level. It is the highest place to stay in the Indian part of the Old Silk Route. It usually remains covered by thick snow from November to mid-April. Due to six-month long sub-zero temperature, the place had remained uninhabited for centuries – making it a cold-desert. Gnathang Valley is one of the most remote Tibetan habitations in Himalaya. Its beauty is virgin and unique in many ways. The forgotten trail of the Old Silk Route is still present here with all its legacy. There are two places tourists can stay at Gnathang Valley. One is Dafter Bunglow and another is Phinasa Lodge both ran by a Sherpa family. It was a beyond the imagination ..everything was picture perfect. If you are vising sikkim plan to stay 2-3 days in Zuluk & Nathang. Pretty much scenic place & nature looks like a real canvas ...every colur make it picture perfect wallpapers.Located at an altitude of 13,500 feet, this lush valley was the home to traditional yak herders who came from Tibet. Few streams crisscross the valley, and prayer flags flutter on the mountain edges on this vast plain of nothingness. Nathang Valley appears in different colours in different times of the year. In autumn it looks golden when the grass dries up, in rainy season it’s covered in flowers and in winter it is buried in 5 feet of snow. Nathang Valley is also visited by migratory birds just before the onset of winter. There’s a monastery, a temple and a small bridge over a small stream in the distance dotting the valley. Man this place called as Heaven. Very beautiful and full of nature. This is in East Sikkim. From here, silk route starts. There is a local Hindu temple, a small Buddhist monastery, few houses, some migratory birds, a stream snaking through the valley and a small bridge over the stream in the distance – Nathang is as close as you can get to paradise. Recommended place to stay in Aritar is Orange Court Resort simply no doubt they have high rating on every social media because of place and it's service. Zuluk, Nathan place to stay was very very basic and would recommend to stay only if you are adventures. We stayed in Nathang sunset home stay it was ok but would not recommend family traveller to stay in Nathan good for day trip from Aritar itself. Nathang Valley looks beautiful in every season, so you can visit the place from June to September when the valley is veiled behind wild flowers. From September to January, the valley gains back a golden hue after the snow thaws from the grassland. From January to April the valley remains under the cover of snow, so if you are looking forward to experience snowfall in winter, this is the ideal time for you.
Very nice place. You will feel value of money and height of mountain.
Nice place to visit. Too cold in Winter. You may find some beautiful homestay but you may need to climb a bit to reach there, it is not a plain land.
