Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Experience the tranquil atmosphere of Jageshwar Dham, a sacred complex of shrines considered to be the oldest Shiva temple in India. Located at an altitude of 1870 m (6135 ft), Jageshwar is the 8th Jyotirling (devotional object to Shiva) of the twelve that exist, hence possessing a great religious value. Walk among 124 stone temples which date from 9th to the 13th century CE. Although being a Hindu temple, a strong Buddhist influence can be seen in the temple’s architecture. The sacred building is located in an ancient deodar forest, adding to the serene atmosphere of reverence.
