Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 100+ reviews on the web
Nestled within a lush jungle, Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple is one of the rare Hindu temples presided by a woman Brahmin (priest). The temple is dedicated to snake gods--the ancient guardians of family homes. Legend has it that the first priestess of the temple gave birth to a five-headed snake. The most dedicated worshipers at the temple are childless couples praying for fertility placing their faith in the special turmeric paste with healing powers. As you walk among dense green groves, look for images of snakes left by devotees--nearly 30,000 of them.
