Enjoy the view from Alappuzha Lighthouse, a historic cylindrical masonry tower and a major tourist attraction. This giant red and white banded chess tower stands 30 m (98 ft) tall above swaying palm trees. Climb its teakwood spiral staircase to the open-top balcony to get a 360 panoramic view of the Alleppey port and the city as well as the open sea. Built in 1862, the lighthouse still operates manually. A small lighthouse museum building is located in the gardens around the tower.
