#2 of 9 in Parks in Ahmednagar District
Kalsubai is a mountain of the Western Ghats range located in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Its summit situated at an elevation of 5400 feet is the highest point in Maharashtra which earns it the much glorified title of the 'Everest of Maharashtra'.The mountain range lies within the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wild-life Sanctuary. It is visited throughout the year by avid trekkers, kalsubai temple devotees and wild-life enthusiasts alike.GeologyThe mountain range was formed by the same historical events that gave birth to the Western Ghats. Resting on the Deccan Plateau geologically identified as a large igneous province, it consists of solidified Flood basalt dating back to the Cenozoic era.Geography and topographyThe peak along with the adjoining hills spans along a downward-slanting east to west axis eventually merging with the formidable escarpment of the western ghats at almost right angles.Along its length they form a natural boundary demarcating the Igatpuri Taluka, Nashik district at its north from the Akole Taluka, Ahmednagar district at its south. The mountain itself lies on the Deccan Plateau with its base at an elevation of 587 meters (1926 feet) above mean sea level. The mountain along with adjoining hills forms an enormous catchment area for the Arthur Lake which it overlooks.

  • Amazing treck. A little hard for beginners but worth it. Worth it once you reach the top after a 2-3 hour trek. Get a guide and get down the mountain after asking the guide to take you down through another way through mountains(better than the normal acend to the peak). Cost 300 rs for a guide. Advice is to get a guide
  • Enjoyed a lot.. takes 3 hrs to reach at peak.. trek is very easy.. At top there is a small kalsubai temple and top view is best,..you have to climb 3 ladders.. Lots of monkeys on the way.. There is a well at top and water is so cold and you get refreshed.. Total trek is about 15 km and takes 6-8 hrs..☺
  • It is known as the highest peak of Maharashtra. It is a great experience. I would suggest every climber to atleast once climb the Everest of Maharashta. This trek consists of ladders and mountain patches both. It is generally too crowded during the weekends. You can trek at night as well as day.
  • Highest point in Maharashtra 1646 meters (5400 feet). Start your trek as early as possible. Takes around 3-4 hrs to reach the top. Carry lots of WATER. Steep rock climbs have iron ladders installed by the government. Lots of open space for camping. Water for well on top of the mountain may not be suitable for Drinking but can be used for other purpose. Public transport available at regular intervals and is cheap.
  • Its the highest peak of Maharashtra and awesome place for trekking lovers. Difficulty is moderate and it takes around 3 hours to reach the top. The trek starts from Baari village. There are ladders on the trek route which have made the trek bit simple. One can see Ratangad fort, Bhandardara dam, Alang, Madan and Kulang forts from the top. There are small stalls for food and water on the top. Public transport is not available to reach Baari village. The trek gets slippery during monsoons. Best time to visit is after monsoons.
