Fatehpur Sikri, Agra
Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Briefly the seat of Emperor Akbar's Mughal Empire, Fatehpur Sikri claims a spot on the World Heritage List as one of the continent's best preserved fortified cities. Much of the architecture follows a distinctive Mughal design, featuring multi-tiered spires and a huge amount of red sandstone. Explore the extensive grounds of the palace-city, enclosed by 6 km (3.7 mi) of towering walls punctuated by imposing gates. The complex still contains a number of administrative buildings and living quarters used by the Emperor during the site's time as capital from 1571 to 1585. Don't miss the panoramic view over the surrounding plain, available from the rear balcony of the fortress. Amazing & really very important place to know the history of delhi ,agra & also for India. Best time for visit is november to february.
Historic place. You will find a big buland darwaza and a jodha bai palace. With a great mughal architecture. Do visit on winter season as it is too hot on summer.
I quite love learning about the man who was in leadership when this was built. His religious and political philosophy is riveting. The architecture all has a story behind it, so make sure to get a good guide to explain things to you. Take your time and inspect each of the many palaces and rooms.
By far one of the best historical monuments I've been to. The whole complex is beautiful and filled with history. Make sure you don't get scammed by some guide though. Reading about it online would help you get better info as there are no information kiosks or boards inside.
