Like the Háifoss, the small valley Gjáin (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈcauːɪn]) with its small waterfalls, ponds, and volcanic structures is situated in the south of Iceland. It is to be found at about half an hour walking distance from the historical farm Þjóðveldisbærinn Stöng.

The volcano Hekla can be seen from the site.

  • An absolutely incredible destination that felt off the beaten track. As others have said, 4x4 is necessary. Once you reach the parking lot, you feel like you've entered a hidden section of Iceland...

  • Probably a lot prettier if you go in the spring or summer, but in October it was mostly brown. Still a nice little valley to visit with two waterfalls and some lovely little trails. The road in and out is not suitable for a regular car, you need a 4x4 (if you want to keep your vehicle insured)
  • Absolutely stunning place. An oasis in a sea of dirt. There are multiple waterfalls here which you have to descend to get to. Expect to spend at least an hour here if you want to really take everything in properly.
  • Awesome! It looks like a combination of a park and a lush valley. It's a bit of a rough ride to get there, but nothing too bad and no river crossings. You can easily drive up here with a city SUV (4wd). We did it with a Dacia Duster. We were the only onea there which was nice.
  • this is truly a must see when visiting iceland. easy hike down to a place that truly feels magical. I’m not sure what it is about this place but you feel it when you’re there. do yourself a favor and stop by for a quick hike
  • This is the best falls I have seen and visited while in Iceland. It is located in a remote location and pretty much you have to go off road, but it's priceless!
