Mountain
Helgafell is a small mountain on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula of Iceland. The mountain is 73m high, and a temple in honor of Þór was built there by the first settler of the area, Þórólfr Mostrarskegg. Helgafell also appears in the Laxdæla saga as the location where the heroine Guðrún Ósvífrsdóttir last lived and is supposedly where she is buried.

  • This is a small mountain in the Snaefellsnes peninsula which can be driven up to its base easily. There is a local folklore of it being a sacred place with ruins of an old chapel at the top. Travelers...  more »
  • It's very moving to climb this mound which impresses not by him even. On the other hand, if you've read the sagas, and are you interested in Icelandic history, you are on a mythical place. The high city is 360 degree and kisses throughout the region. A good beautiful discovery that I now can well illustrate through my reading.
