Seljalandsfoss, South Region

4.8
Seljalandsfoss waterfall represents a dramatic single river that drops 60 m (200 ft) over a cave cliff. Situated between Selfoss and Skógafoss, this picturesque spot features a cave entrance that allows you to go behind the waterfall into the cave for a 360-degree view of the fall. Be prepared to get damp, as spray from the water often shoots into the cave. Treat yourself to a drink or pastry at the snack truck that is often nearby. Smaller waterfalls exist just a bit farther down the path, so if you're up for exploring, look for those as well. • This waterfall itself is actually like many other waterfalls in Iceland. But here you can go through behind the waterfall. Necessarily take rainproof clothing. It is definitely very wet. But it's worth.

  • Best waterfall experience in Iceland. Take the time to walk 400 meters to the West and check out the smaller falls that drop into a box canyon.  more »
  • A rather hazardous walk behind the waterfall - but worth it for the sheer spectacle. Also, the surroundings are lushly green, with lots of wild flowers (well, when we visited in mid-summer). Fortunate...  more »

  • Seljalandsfoss really shows off the power of water. It is a true spectacle to see and feel the water plunge down 60 meters. Take some water proof clothing with you because you can walk all the way around it through the cave. If you walk along the ridge you will find some more streams of water running down. They are by far not as big as the Seljalandsfoss, but definitely look nice and there's plenty of fish swimming there.
  • Really fun, waterproofs essential, do make the time to walk to the other waterfall a little way up the path on the left. When there go through the cave, be careful with your footing. Pay and display car park takes cards only.
  • a great experience, being able to walk behind the waterfall. Lots of great photo opportunities. There is a pay and display car park, but also free toilets and a kiosk to purchase a hot drink after getting wet in the waterfall. remember to wear suitable, waterproof clothing.
  • Beautiful waterfall but full of tourists by the coachload. This was the only place in Iceland outside of the city that we were charged for parking. It's worth walking down the path to the other smaller waterfalls as they are also interesting and less populated.
  • MAJESTIC WATERFALL!! Truly a site to see. It's not a far walk from the parking lot, (Maybe a half mile) but it's truly a site to see. I would recommend bringing waterproof clothing or a poncho just it gets very wet. They have restrooms, and a small cafe that serves coffee and big sandwiches.
