One of the largest waterfalls in Iceland, Skogafoss sits along the cliffs of the country's former southern coastline. The coast has receded about 5 km (3.1 mi) toward the sea, so these falls now mark the boundary between the lowlands and the highlands. On sunny days, you can often see a single or double rainbow above the falls due to the huge volume of mist. If you don't mind getting wet, you can walk pretty close to the waterfall and even follow a rocky path behind the wall of water. Climb up to the top for a different view of the falls and the surrounding landscape. Určitě stojí za návštěvu, je to jeden z nejkrásnějších vodopádů na ostrově. Je u něj bezplatné parkoviště, a dále můžete pokračovat po schodech až nahoru na vyhlídku nad vodopádem. Poté si ještě uděle... more »Definitely worth a visit, it is one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island. A free car park, and you can continue up the stairs to the prospect over the waterfall. Then you still have to make at least a short walk along the River, there is still much more smaller waterfalls and there are pretty views. Plus people do not go there anymore so much:)
This was my favourite out of many waterfalls that we saw on our trip to Iceland. We were lucky because just after we arrived at Skogafoss, a rainbow appeared above the waterfall which made it look tru... more »
This is another of the many amazing waterfalls in Iceland. This waterfall provides the opportunity to walk up close to the base of the waterfall to feel and hear the power. It doesn't take much time t... more »
Beautiful waterfall. The amazing thing is that it constantly creates rainbows if there is at least a bit of sun. There are also stairs that lead to the side of the cliff where you can look at waterfall from the top and observe amazing scenery that opens up to you. Also it is a start to one of the long hiking routes that you can take that goes between two of the glaciers at the end of it.
This is of the most beautiful waterfalls we saw in Iceland. It was cold and windy, but the sun was out so we got to see an amazing rainbow across the falls. The path was extremely icy and slippery, particularly the steps to the top of the falls, so be cautious if visiting in winter. The view at the top is pretty, but the climb wasn’t worth it in my opinion, as you can’t really see the water once you’re up there. Save your energy and enjoy it from below!
This is my favorite fall in Iceland. The view is amazing. I also had the luck to see a rainbow. It was worth it. I also think that the winter view is way better than the summer view.
Impressive waterfall! You don‘t need to walk far from the parking lot. About 400 stairs take you up and you can look at it from above!
The fall itself is pretty sweet. Super high volume, really cool rock formations, and very green. I also like the lore of the Viking treasure hiding within. That being said, this place is crazy touristy. There's the hotel restaurant thing nearby, and the parking lot is a huge blemish. Even worse are the endless tents along the grass. It all ruins the experience somewhat.
