Skogafoss, Skogar

(4.8/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
One of the largest waterfalls in Iceland, Skogafoss sits along the cliffs of the country's former southern coastline. The coast has receded about 5 km (3.1 mi) toward the sea, so these falls now mark the boundary between the lowlands and the highlands. On sunny days, you can often see a single or double rainbow above the falls due to the huge volume of mist. If you don't mind getting wet, you can walk pretty close to the waterfall and even follow a rocky path behind the wall of water. Climb up to the top for a different view of the falls and the surrounding landscape. A visit to Skogafoss represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Skogar trip itinerary maker to plot your vacation.

  • What can you say, its a huge waterfall, when it rains the amount of water over the falls gets even larger. There is a big car park, which is needed for the amount of people visiting. Lots of people tr...  more »
  • Essential site in Iceland a Regal eye parking is at the foot of the waterfall so no market unless you go upstairs for a view at the top then on-site there are farms of time Museum, paying (€15 / pers) averaged but nice all the same

  • Skógafoss (Forest waterfall) is often referred to as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland. It has all the ingredients of a great natural wonder. The amount of water is excessive, the form of the waterfall is almost perfect in its rectangular shape, the 60-meter drop makes it impressive, and the width of 25 meters puts it into a great perspective. On the ground in front of the waterfall, the amount of spray continuously produced by the falling water quite often creates both a single and a double rainbow visible on any given day when the sun is shining.
  • Large powerful falls. Beautiful, a must see. Try taking the hike up to the top for a wonderful view.
  • I liked the waterfall, but I did not expect so many people and Japanese taking pictires of us, how we are "camping" and sleeping in the tent..... We were happy about café and shop. Shower did not have a good pressure.
  • This is my favourite waterfall in the south. So pretty. There's a short hike up the hill (there are stairs) and you can see the waterfall from above. There's also tons more land you can walk around. There are sheep everywhere and they are so adorable.
  • This is one of my favourite waterfalls in Iceland. The width of it shows how powerful it is. You can do an easy walk along some steps to get to a view point or you can see it from the bottom (a short walk from the parking). So it is super easy if you're concerned about too much walking.
