  • Wow...this museum is world class. SO well done. It's great that they've been able to preserve and effectively display all the implements, machinery and artifacts from this bygone era. I give kudos to whoever organized and set the museum up, as well as whoever currently maintains and manages it. Great job. ( The road to get there, however, is another story.)
  • 7-27-22 I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. I honestly had zero interest in herring but the connection to this town and its history is pretty neat. There are three buildings to peruse and each details the ships used, the typical worker and their job, and processing plants. I found the growth and eventual contraction of the town all determined by a single species of fish interesting. Human behavior affects more than one would imagine. The preservation and replication of the museum gives a great depiction of gender roles in this period. Also found it neat to speak to a "herring baby" who was conceived in the town and probably would not have been unless this fish and era didn't happen. Check it out.
  • This was amazing. You can actually touch artifacts and there was a lot to see. It took us over an hour and we like to go somewhat fast. Definitely a must see.
  • I'm really not a fan of museums, usually I skip them. However, this trip I was travelling not alone and group decision was to come to this museum. I was impressed, that herring industry could be shown in such interesting way, you need to go there for at least one hour, stop at places and read, see movies, then you start to feel that part of Icelandic way of life. Really interesting place which has three separate building and they are representing different part of herring industry.
  • Had way more fun than I initially thought. There is a lot to see, and the history section aside, I found it interesting that not everything is labelled and noted down as in other places. Lots of original things and ambient sound and old radios playing the eras music make it feel like some warp back in time. And you touch & explore rather that read a lot. Super cool on the large boats you can climb onto and into. Great place!
