Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach, Reykjavik

3.7
#3 of 7 in Parks in Reykjavik
Sit in the sun, swim, sail, or just unwind after a busy day at Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach. This beach on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean houses an artificial lagoon with large sea walls, where cold seawater and hot geothermal water combine. Try cold-water swimming, which is an Icelandic tradition that goes back to the age of settlement--but beware of hypothermia. The beach features a hot pot, steam bath, snack bar serving hot drinks and chocolate, and kids' playground. Amenities include changing rooms, toilets, showers, and towels and swimsuits you can rent. Dogs, bicycles, and any kind of vehicle traffic are not allowed on the beach. This is a beautiful oasis in Reykjavik. There are two hot pools. One of them is at high tide in the water. Even in the sea, the warm water allows to swim. The use is free of charge. WCs and showers are very clean.

Where to stay in Reykjavik

In this highly walkable capital, many of Reykjavik's hotels and guesthouses offer close proximity to the city's popular attractions, bars, and restaurants. The waterfront offers an exciting dose of activity. Although Reykjavik provides plenty of accommodations to its flocks of visitors, there is a dearth of budget options in the city. Price-conscious visitors should consider staying in a hostel, with both private and dorm rooms available, or a nearby campsite. Although the campground is not as centrally located as some hotels, guests are better positioned to take advantage of the natural surroundings.
