Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach, Reykjavik

3.7
#3 of 7 in Parks in Reykjavik
Beach Nature / Park
Sit in the sun, swim, sail, or just unwind after a busy day at Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach. This beach on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean houses an artificial lagoon with large sea walls, where cold seawater and hot geothermal water combine. Try cold-water swimming, which is an Icelandic tradition that goes back to the age of settlement--but beware of hypothermia. The beach features a hot pot, steam bath, snack bar serving hot drinks and chocolate, and kids' playground. Amenities include changing rooms, toilets, showers, and towels and swimsuits you can rent. Dogs, bicycles, and any kind of vehicle traffic are not allowed on the beach. Put Nautholsvik Geothermal Beach at the forefront of your travel plans using our Reykjavik vacation trip planner.

  • This is a beautiful area and beach. I guess I was just expecting 'warm' water. I stepped out into the water up to my neck and by that time, I could no longer feel my toes-I turned around. The warm wat...  more »
  • Was there in 2009 as our 1st stop. Was there this week and cannot believe how much it has changed! Tourists galore and much nicer facilities. Food service, etc. A unique geothermal pool in Reykjavik!  more »
  • One outdoor pool-or rather the drain with a half meter hot water where we lay closest to tight as sardines Here was the most garvete natives who closest to is born in such bad so it was perfectly fine and unproblematic.. With its abundance of water from the island's countless hot springs was also one outlet in fjord Bay where it was also bathers. Unaccustomed as I am, I thought it was too cold here so I preferred the trench where it certainly approached 40 degrees. Here it was free for all and we arranged the practical big even and on your own. As a bonus, you get to go for a nice promenade and along the domestic airport back to Reykjavik. If one is picky and want luxury is probably not this place but would like but to go a little outside of the opptråkkete tourist paths then this is one good place.

Where to stay in Reykjavik

In this highly walkable capital, many of Reykjavik's hotels and guesthouses offer close proximity to the city's popular attractions, bars, and restaurants. The waterfront offers an exciting dose of activity. Although Reykjavik provides plenty of accommodations to its flocks of visitors, there is a dearth of budget options in the city. Price-conscious visitors should consider staying in a hostel, with both private and dorm rooms available, or a nearby campsite. Although the campground is not as centrally located as some hotels, guests are better positioned to take advantage of the natural surroundings.
