Iceladic history comes to life at National Museum of Iceland, founded in 1863. Though its collections used to be held in various Danish institutions, the museum now houses objects returned to their country of origin in the 19th century. The permanent exhibit includes a celebrated carved door depicting a lion slaying a dragon. • VERY interesting. It's not a huge museum but it's great. It's laid out nice. When we were there it wasn't very crowded. This was wonderful, it gave us as much time as we wanted to read and study esvh display. I have never seen artifacts this old!!!!!! Still can't figure out how these artifacts survived all those years!!! Enjoy!!!
  • This a beautifully structured museum that houses a number of fascinating artifacts from the country's history. The narrative of Iceland is played out through two floors of chronological advancing pieces, including an entire living arrangement and a full sized boat. This museum is a great way to spend a few hours just outside of the main tourism streets of Reykjavik.
  • Well funded museum! Full of knowledge and information for the average consumer as well as those who take interest in local history. Beautiful array of artifacts, well lit walkways, and spacious exhibit areas that do not feel overcrowded or awkward. I loved it and I also enjoyed the small cafe inside.
  • If you want to learn about Icelandic history and culture, this is definitely the place. It's a great museum!! And the map they give you (which highlights an important piece for each era), makes it easier to navigate.
  • Amazing museum, nice interactive displays. Visited on our last day and had the best time. Lockere to store your bags and hand a coat room to hang your jackets up. Would recommend
