Grotta Lighthouse, Reykjavik
Categories: Lighthouses, Tourist Spots
Grotta Lighthouse is a popular recreational area and bird sanctuary, and a good spot for catching the northern lights. It also offers views over parts of the city and the whole bay. Cross a small, sandy bank to get to the lighthouse, but beware of the rising tide. If you come by car, you can wait for the aurora borealis in the little parking lot. On clear nights, the show may go on for hours, but you have to be patient waiting for it to start. The tourist-friendly facilities include restrooms and a bar.
