Grotta Lighthouse, Reykjavik

Lighthouse · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Grotta Lighthouse is a popular recreational area and bird sanctuary, and a good spot for catching the northern lights. It also offers views over parts of the city and the whole bay. Cross a small, sandy bank to get to the lighthouse, but beware of the rising tide. If you come by car, you can wait for the aurora borealis in the little parking lot. On clear nights, the show may go on for hours, but you have to be patient waiting for it to start. The tourist-friendly facilities include restrooms and a bar. • Windy and beautiful. You can drive fairly far out and part for free. There is also a great running/ biking trailer here so if you need to go for a jog, park here and run mindlessly for a few hours.
  • This is most definitely a beautiful experience. I would recommend going here when the sun is out. Its a lot more beautiful. The cool wind and the view of the mountains along the sea is absolutely stunning. Ill let the pictures speak for themselves.
  • What a beautiful site to see and the smell of salt is also nice and intense. You have to see it.
  • A very windswept but beautiful place to see. On a clear day you can see all the way to Snaefelljokul National Park which is about 60-70km away. Great views of the inner harbor and Eskja mountain across from Reykjavik.
  • It's a really nice place to visit
