Where to stay in Reykjavik

In this highly walkable capital, many of Reykjavik's hotels and guesthouses offer close proximity to the city's popular attractions, bars, and restaurants. The waterfront offers an exciting dose of activity. Although Reykjavik provides plenty of accommodations to its flocks of visitors, there is a dearth of budget options in the city. Price-conscious visitors should consider staying in a hostel, with both private and dorm rooms available, or a nearby campsite. Although the campground is not as centrally located as some hotels, guests are better positioned to take advantage of the natural surroundings.

  • I'm kind of a museum buff, and the fact Culture house was included with the National museum purchase makes it worth visiting. You won't be wowed by any means. The art is eclectic and focuses on Icelandic artists. Some of the artifacts in the museum are interesting as they give an optic into Icelandic culture. Would I come here as an sole museum visit, no. But, if you are heading to the National Museum which was well worth it, a visit to The Culture house would suit well.
  • Art pieces and cultural artifacts haphazardly put together. No thematic element to tie things together, which if that was the purpose, failed to leave any memorable mark to the city. It had beautiful design and was a truly unique building.
  • A but of a mish mash of historical things. If there was some coherent story or objective I missed it. Between this and the main museum, I think that Iceland has failed to tell personal stories or to relate what real life was about in historical iceland. This is a missed opportunity as the stories that I have read in various historical novels have been so compelling yet the museums are capturing nothing of the harshness of life in early Iceland.
  • Very disappointing. Had it not been for the ticket we had previously paid for at another site of theirs we would have spent 2000k on the tickets per person. This was wholly not worth even half that. Similarly to the modern art gallery it was full of uninteresting pieces.
  • Pretty cool museum with artifacts from Reykjavik's several museums and their national archives. It was a good complement to their National Museum.
