  • You access the waterfall via a path that starts from the main waterfall Dettifoss nearby. You have to walk about 10-20 minutes.

  • We happened upon Selfoss by chance as we originally planned on seeing Dettifoss (via route 862). once we had our fill of Dettifoss, we took the path leading to Selfoss (1.2km is memory serves me well)...  more »
  • After the waterfall of Detifoss, must take a well signposted path of about 2 km, which can be done in 30 minutes. Keep the car in the same parking lot of the Detifoss. Selfoss waterfall does not have the force of the Detifoss, but is curious and unique in the way falling water by several pieces of the mountain. No doubt the ride worth to see.

  • If you are viewing Dettifoss, you should not miss Selfoss only one-kilometer hike away. It is a beautiful waterfall and quite different although almost at the same spot in the same river. We at Hit Iceland prefer to recommend the eastern side of the river, especially for Selfoss waterfall.
  • Beautiful horseshoe waterfall. You can only see it from afar, though. The walking path to get to it was very nice too (it was in May), but a lot of the snow had melted and a large part of the path was completely flooded. We had to manage a workaround.
  • Very beautiful waterfall, but you have tot see it from the eastern side of the canyon. 'So take route 864, which is a gravel road in bad shape, perfectably doable with a normal car. Park at dettifoss and go by foot tot selfoss. You'll enjoy the marvellous view on the series of falls
  • Good waterfall but there are better ones in iceland
  • Two waterfalls within easy walking distance of one another. I was there the very first day of the year that the road was open so I practically had the entire place to myself. So pure and pristine. It was magical!
