  • Upstream Dettifoss is a waterfall Selfoss. If you take the trouble to walk to Dettifoss, continue for 700 meters remaining to Selfoss-access, you will not be disappointed! We could not approach us very near the waterfall, but we were still able to admire it! On the other hand, I am amateur in photo and the mist created by the waterfall + the Sun have not allowed me to make beautiful... it's not serious, the memories remain in the head! The path to get there is really very nice and good undercover. More details of my trip to Iceland on my blog: Mam 'Z' it Pilouche! Reminder: to access these waterfalls, take the No. 862 (fully paved) road which will lead you to a large parking lot (or there is a toilet), then follow the signs!

  • We had a lovely time here, got some amazing photos. There is 2 car parks one at the bottom and one at the top. There are steps for you to access both. Wasn't overly busy when we went. There are many w...  more »

  • We saw a lot of waterfalls in Iceland, but this was hands down our favorite. I have never seen another waterfall with so many individual large streams of water. We counted over 20. (We were there in July.) If you are already going to Dettifoss, take the time to walk here. I spent a lot of time planning this trip, but I didn't know about Selfoss. I don't know why it's not more highly rated and publicized. Another big plus, there were only two other people there the day we went. A lot of places in Iceland are crowded, but this is not one of them. Make sure you go to the bathroom before you start walking because there is no where to go once you get to Selfoss.
  • Incredible waterfall experience! Visible from the road with parking and bathroom built next to it. Yes, there will be a fair amount of tourists depending on the season you but it (September still had a fair amount of people) but honestly didn't take away from the experience. You can walk along the base looking up, or use the railed stairway built into the mountain and climb to the top. You cannot go behind this waterfall (as far as I know). At the top you can walk along the river for quite a while. Climbing up the stairs is moderately difficult as the incline is steep. Well worth an hour or so stop before heading to other destinations. This is also close to other Waterfalls.
  • This place was worth the cold, the snow/rain, and the icy stairs. It doesn't even seem real. It's the Niagra Falls of Iceland and offers stunning views. The ice and snow made for a dramatic viewing. There's a place to purchase things but like all shops in Iceland, it's pricey.
  • Amazing sight! Especially at winter, the sheer size of this was astonishing.
  • Just amazing, dozens of "small" waterfalls combined into one.
