Mývatn Nature Baths, Lake Myvatn

Soak inside or out at Mývatn Nature Baths. A warm natural lagoon maintains a temperature of 35-40 C (95-104 F). Inside you can take an even hotter steam bath, which uses geothermal steam that rises through holes in the floor. If you get too hot, you'll find cold showers outside. Relax with a back, foot, or full-body massage, in the massage room or out by the lagoon. Often chosen as an alternative to the Blue Lagoon, these hot springs attract fewer tourists and are less expensive. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Lake Myvatn holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Mývatn Nature Baths and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • We really enjoyed our time at Myvatn Nature Baths. It is not as fancy as the Blue Lagoon but it definitely is less crowded (more relaxing?) and cheaper. It has two large pools and one small super hot ...  more »

  • Amazing amazing pool - natural pool it is. You go in any weather is good. Your skin will definitely get better and glow after dipping in this water. Just add more moisturizer in hair when you go for a bath. This is good way to relax as they are open late like 12 noon. The quick food grab is amazing - the soups or sandwiches just yum.
  • Really nice outdoor hot springs bath. Not too crowded so you can still enjoy your time and relax and also spend time to take plenty of photos. Definitely strongly recommended.
  • Love this place. It was very pretty and relaxing. The scenic views while soaking was gorgeous! We were a little upset with a few things. The morning we were there they were filming a commercial so they kept kicking us out of certain areas for long periods of time. (They could of definitely done that when it was closed rather than inconveniencing their paying customers) Also it says only 20 people allowed at a time which isn't true. There were about 20 people there when we first got there and by the time we left (2hrs later) there were close to 80. There are also not six baths. There is one giant hot pool, one small tub off to the side and steam rooms. Employees were nice but not very informative. They could of definitely given us more information when we checked in but they just gave us coins for the lockers and sent us on our way. Overall experience was great because there aren't a lot of places like this.
  • This was a nice stop on our tour. The senior rate made it reasonable. We enjoyed about an hour in the bath and then had lunch at the restaurant. Not crowded when we were there and that made for a relaxed time in the bath.
  • Good temperature, great views. We came at opening and it was deliciously quiet, we spent two hours, even though it is middle of tourist season. Showers are nice and hot, shampoo/conditioner/shower gel is provided. Nice little restaurant with bites/sandwiches/soups etc, also vegan options. Great place!
