Fjaðrárgljúfur is a canyon in south east Iceland which is up to 100 m deep and about 2 kilometres long, with the Fjaðrá river flowing through it. It is located near the Ring Road, not far from the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.The canyon was created by progressive erosion by flowing water from glaciers through the rocks and palagonite over millennia.

  • Beautiful deep canyons with a river running through. It is a couple km off the ring road, just keep driving on the gravel road and you'll eventually get there. While I always say come early come early...  read more »
  • Last summer I was there and walked on the upper side. Two years ago, I waded through the river which flows down there. It is extremely beautiful. Just a coachtips. Bring your camera.
