Create an itinerary including Glacier Lagoon
At Glacier Lagoon chunks of blue icebergs float along the shore so close that you can almost reach out and touch them. This glacial lake at the head of Breidamerkurjokull glacier developed as the glacier began to drift away from the Atlantic Ocean. Visit the tongue of the lake, where icebergs break away from the glacier and drift from the lake into the ocean. Keep your eyes peeled for seals, fish, and sea birds, such as arctic tern, who make their home in the lagoon. Walk the length of the lagoon's shore to the black beach, where you'll find icebergs washed ashore. Several tour companies operate boat tours on the lagoon. • This tour lets you see the glacier and icebergs up close in a Zodiac boat. Also, we were able to see seals and ice tunnels. Well worth it. Our guide was Marcus and he was great.

  • The size of these icebergs when you know that you are probably seeing only 1/4 above the surface of the water with an iceberg the size of a naval frigate in the foreground and a loaded container ship....  more

  • This place is something special with turquoise blue water dotted with icebergs. Look carefully for seals swimming around too. It looks like some companies offer kayak and boat tours, though I’d be a bit weary because of how much wind there can be.
  • Amazing! I wouldn’t spend more than an hour or two here, it isn’t worth coming from Reykjavik by itself. But it is an excellent stop on any ring road tour.
  • Amazingly beautiful place to see fresh icebergs and seals. Nice walk along the beach and you can see a variety of colours on the bergs. Plenty of seals swimming around. There's a beach area where you can see it all close up at ground level or a hill to walk up and get a different perspective from above. Just an amazing place to visit and totally free!
  • Incredible iceberg lagoon with large icebergs floating around. Some of the icebergs have a nice blue tint to it. Many seals playing in the water around the icebergs makes a most beautiful scenery. The lagoon has two food trucks on shore - one lobster theme and one fish and chips. Diamond beach is about 5 minutes by foot away from the lagoon.
  • Stunning views just a minute walk from the car park. We went in June and had a beautiful view.
