Hlíðarfjall is a mountain located west of the Icelandic town Akureyri in Eyjafjörður. It is the site of one of two major ski resorts in Iceland. The former hotel no longer offers accommodation and is now mostly used for meetings.Hlíðarfjall is generally considered to be named after Lögmannshlíð, a (formerly important) homestead and church site on the slopes of the mountain (the word hlíð having the meaning "slope").

Where to stay in Akureyri

For easy access to Akureyri's most popular attractions, restaurants, and stores, consider staying in the lively waterfront area. This area features a number of hotels and hostels within walking distance of the city's museums, galleries, and sites. Cost-conscious visitors should explore one of the more inland guesthouses. Some double as student housing but are generally not raucous. Vacation apartments provide a good base for those planning a longer stay in the northerly metropolis and many are centrally located. To make the most of the scenic countryside surrounding the city, opt for a campsite or cottage in the outskirts.
