Pannonhalma Archabbey, Pannonhalma

Must see · World heritage site · Church · Religious Site
A haven of faith and tranquility, Pannonhalma Archabbey represents a historical monument that has lasted as long as Christianity in Hungary. Visit the Benedictine monastery founded in 996 CE, which is now one of the largest abbeys in the world. Learn about life in a monastic community, see the collection of medieval artifacts and artwork, and admire the herb house and botanical garden. The monastery also makes wine, and you'll have a chance to glimpse the production process and taste the final products. Religious and cultural events, such as exhibits and concerts, are regularly held at the abbey. Check online for the schedules. Multilingual audio tours are available, as well as a gift shop and a restaurant. Not all of the abbey is wheelchair-accessible, but special arrangements can be made for visitors with walking difficulties. • Lovely view of the town from the top. Amazing structure and we love the library. Audio guides are provided, definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
  • Ancient monastery located on beautiful hill. I simple love visiting this ancient places as they evoke mystery in my mind. Besides that the surrounding woods provide a relaxing walk such as in the near Arboretum or the walk in the trees. After that you can reffill the energy in the neighboring restaurant with a outside terrace. Little bit posh though. Alternatively you can have food in the village on the foot of the hill
  • loved it, so calm and peaceful. Make sure you there at 1pm then you can join the monks for prayer. If you want to do wine tasting you must book in day in advance.
